Dear Department and Post leaders, Please see the below message from the Veterans Benefits Administration: On Thursday, September 26, 2019, the Veterans Benefits Administration retroactive payment process failed to complete due to a computer processing error. This process included 27,829 monthly Compensation Disability or Pension benefits that normally would pay on October 1, 2019. Due to this issue, these 27,829 payments will be delayed by two days. Payments will be deposited to the Veteran's bank account on Thursday, October 3, 2019. Please note, this issue does not affect Veterans receiving benefits under the GI Bill or Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment programs. VBA's payment processing system is hardcoded to prevent payments during the End of Month period (the last two business days of each month), which prevents us from releasing these payments any earlier than October 3, 2019. This End of Month period is critical to ensuring our regulatory and statutory financial reporting requirements are met. While the issue that caused this delay has been resolved, VBA is actively working with our VA Office of Information and Technology partners to identify ways to mitigate the risk of delayed payments going forward. VBA acknowledges that this delay could cause a hardship on Veterans and their families and we would like to work with those facing financial hardship on a case by case basis. Information on how Veterans may contact VA with any questions regarding this delay or to request assistance is provided below.
